
Pain Mapping and Pain Management
For chronic Unbearable pain at back or neck
Pain mapping:
This is the technique by which one can preciously identify the source of pain at back or neck. Pain mapping usually done through appropriate clinical knowledge & identification, some appropriate investigation & sometimes by few procedure by which pain can temporarily reduce.
This procedure includes:
1. Provocative discography
2. Selective nerve root block
3. Facet joint block
4. Sacroiliac joint block.
5. Medial branch block
All in these procedures usually a small needle pass into disc space or small facet joint of spine under local anesthesia to temporarily block the pain to search out the source of pain.
Pain Management:
After proper identification of pain source, these long standing back or neck pain can be resolve or reduced for long period of time by some procedures collectively called Pain Management.
These include:
1. Chemical dissolution of disc material
2. Radiofrequency ablation of facet joint.
3. Radiofrequency Neurectomy of medial branch
4. Percutaneous vertebroplasty
